New at Egeskov 2008

ADDITIONS

Among the many new additions we are looking forward to showing you are 10 new vehicles in the veteran car museum. For example a Rolls Royce Phantom II from 1934, a Mercedes 450 SE from 1974 and a Mercedes 280 from 1971. The motorcycle museum now houses one of Europe's finest collections of penny-farthings, all of which are a neck-breaking ride. We have also been given 50 wonderful old porcelain dolls so there are now more than 600 dolls on display in our collection.

CASTLE EXHIBITIONWe spent the winter clearing up in the attic and discovered many exciting items. Among others, a fine collection of copper kitchenware and other household articles that have belonged to Egeskov for generations. These are now on display in the castle attic, where they form part of the exhibition "Egeskov housekeeping past and present" along with much of the tableware owned by the castle, including the setting used at our wedding.

NEW GARDEN IN SHADES OF BLUEIn the park, we are delighted to be able to present two new gardens, which our gardeners have spent the winter painstakingly landscaping. The area around Piet Hein's sundial has been embellished with a completely new garden, kept entirely in shades of blue. And we have also recreated the perennial garden, which my grandmother designed in 1967 together with landscape architects Erna Sonne Friis and Ingver Ingversen. We used the original drawings, so the garden now contains 250 species and 1500 plants altogether. Thanks to their various flowering times, the perennials will provide spectacularly colourful displays from early spring to late autumn.

Our tree-top walk has now been furnished with a photo platform, allowing visitors to enjoy wonderful bird's-eye views of the surroundings.  And lastly, but by no means least, we have now joined the disabled access scheme. We have therefore greatly improved access facilities for the disabled, outside and in. So although Egeskov is centuries old, it now offers much easier access for everyone.

This year, we will again offer all paying visitors complimentary season tickets as the arrangement has proved a great success. This year, though, we have automated the process in an attempt to avoid queuing. Visitors can therefore now activate their season tickets at any of the four photo booths spread around the grounds.Visitors arriving from Zealand will again be given the opportunity of saving 40% on their return crossing by showing their ticket for the Great Belt Bridge.

We look forward to seeing you at Egeskov. You are more than welcome.

Kind regards Michael Ahlefeldt-Laurvig-Bille
